Cookie Policy
This policy explains how Valta Limited ("Valta", "we") uses cookies and similar technologies on valta.co.nz today. Read it with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information. We're improving our consent controls, and we'll update this page when the changes are live.
What these technologies are
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies include browser storage, and tags and pixels: small pieces of code that send information about your visit to the company that provides them.
What we use, and why
Category: Essential
Providers: Valta, Cookiebot, Cloudflare, Stripe
What they do: Keep the Site working and secure, remember your cookie choice, check forms are used by people rather than bots (Cloudflare Turnstile), and prevent fraud when you pay (Stripe, at checkout). Cloudflare also counts page views and measures page speed without cookies.
Category: Maps
Providers: Mapbox
What they do: Shows the interactive map on listing pages. Mapbox stores a random identifier in your browser and receives information about how its maps load and are used.
Category: Analytics
Providers: Google Analytics, PostHog
What they do: Help us understand how people use the Site and individual listings. PostHog stores a random identifier in your browser for up to a year.
Category: Error monitoring and session replay
Providers: Sentry
What they do: Reports technical errors so we can fix them. Sentry also records about 1 in 10 visits, and visits where an error happens, as a replay of what was clicked and viewed. All text is masked and images are blocked, so the recordings don't show what you type or read.
Category: Advertising
Providers: Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Google
What they do: The Meta Pixel measures our ads and lets us show Valta ads to people who have visited the Site. Google also uses Google Analytics data for advertising features, such as building audiences of past visitors.
What retargeting means in practice: if you look at a listing on Valta, you might later see an ad for Valta or that listing on Facebook, Instagram or Google.
How this works where you are
New Zealand - We don't show a cookie banner in New Zealand. Everything listed above is on by default. You can switch analytics and advertising off using the options under "Managing your choices" below.
Everywhere else, including the EU, the UK, Australia and the United States - We show a cookie banner. You can click "Allow all", click "Deny", or open "Show details" to choose categories.
Advertising (Meta Pixel) only loads if you allow marketing.
Google Analytics only sets cookies if you allow statistics. Until then, Google may receive basic measurement signals without cookies, for example that a page was viewed, plus any ad-click information in the link you arrived by.
Please note: PostHog, Sentry (including session replay), Mapbox and Cloudflare currently run whatever you choose in the banner. We're changing this so that analytics and session replay respect your choice, and we'll update this policy when that's done.
Overseas providers
Most of these providers are based overseas, mainly in the United States. Meta and Google also use the information they receive for their own purposes, under their own privacy policies. Section 6 of our Privacy Policy explains more.
